At Jaroslawicz & Jaros, PLLC, we are honest with potential clients when it comes time to talk about whether they have a case, how much it might be worth and how long it will probably take, so that those who trust us enough to tell us their stories have the information they need to make the decisions that are best for them as to how to proceed.

We are also honest with people who come to our office seeking legal representation whom we are unable to assist. We know it is frustrating to those seeking legal help to be turned away, so we have come up with this list of the top three reasons why we (and other attorneys) turn down cases.

  1. We do not do that kind of work. Our firm specializes in helping people who have been injured seek fair compensation. We are very good at this (we’ve recovered over $1 Billion for our clients) because we don’t get sidetracked doing other types of legal work. So, when people (even past clients) come to us seeking help with something like a divorce or a criminal case, we cannot represent them and can only try to refer them to other attorneys.
  2. Unfortunately, we have to turn away a fair number of people who have been injured because taking their case is not an efficient use of our limited time and resources. Although we do a lot of pro bono work each year, most of the cases we accept need to be cases that allow us to cover our costs and make a profit. So, we don’t take on cases where it is obvious that the defendant is not going to be able to pay or cases where the injuries are not that serious so that the defendant will end up paying less than what it will cost for us to win the case.
  3. Sometimes we see “red flags” during our free initial consultation. Our first meeting with a potential client is always free of charge. During that meeting, we go over the basic facts of the case: Were you or a loved one injured? What is the injury? How did it happen? What is the theory of liability? What caused the injury? Is insurance involved? If it becomes clear during this meeting that we do not think you have a meritorious case that will result in a substantial settlement or verdict or that the injuries are just not serious enough, we have no choice but to decline to take your case.

If you or a loved one was injured and needs legal assistance, call Jaroslawicz & Jaros at or submit an online questionnaire. The initial consultation is free of charge, and if we agree to handle your case, we will work on a contingency fee basis, which means we get paid for our services only if there is a monetary recovery of funds. In many cases, a lawsuit must be filed before an applicable expiration date, known as a statute of limitations. Please call to ensure that you do not waive your right to compensation. Or you can email us at [email protected].
