A prominent lawsuit, featured recently in New York Law Journal, involves a U.S. trademark dispute of “Limelight” as the name of an upcoming nightclub being developed in Los Angeles. Peter Gatien, whom the New York Post once dubbed “The King of Clubs,” has sued the developers and others involved in the Dream Hollywood hotel, including the Tao Group LLC and four of its partners. He claims that the defendants are infringing on his “Limelight” trademark, registered in 1991, even though the trademark was allowed to lapse on December 1, 2015. In fact, the Limelight club was the center of several questionable incidents during its 20 years period of popularity until its closure in 2001. David Jaroslawicz, partner in New York’s prestigious law firm, Jaroslawicz & Jaros is representing Tao Group in the lawsuit.
